Best directory website builder for WordPress: five picks
For a WordPress site, the best directory website builder is a plugin or theme chosen by license type: GeoDirectory adds paid listings for $49 a year on one site, as read on October 23, 2026. Directorist bundles every extension, Business Directory Plugin has a free version, Listeo sells a one-time license and Directories Pro a CodeCanyon one. Brilliant Directories is the hosted option for owners who do not want WordPress.

Try Brilliant Directories →Yearly licenses: GeoDirectory, Directorist and Business Directory Plugin
GeoDirectory's core plugin is free. Its Pricing Manager add-on is $49 a year for one site, $69 for 2 to 5 sites and $99 for unlimited sites. Its all-products membership page lists 1 year for 1 website at $139 and for unlimited websites at $229.
Directorist lists $129 a year for one site, $169 for five and $219 for unlimited sites, though promotions run and the shown price can be lower. Every membership includes all themes and extensions, and its pricing page lists a 14-day money-back guarantee.
Business Directory Plugin Basic is $99 for the first year, renewing at $149, for one site. Pro is $149 for the first year, renewing at $249, for three sites.
Listeo and Directories Pro: theme and marketplace licenses
Listeo is a theme whose page data lists $89 one-time for one site; the page shows each visitor's own currency. Support runs 12 months, then renews at $59 a year.
Directories Pro is a plugin sold on CodeCanyon. Its item page lists a Regular License at $39 and an Extended License at $195, in US dollars, with 6 months of support. The page words the Regular License for an end product that end users are not charged for, and the Extended License for one they can be charged for. Which license a paid directory needs is a question for that license text.
Charging for listings on WordPress
GeoDirectory needs its Pricing Manager add-on plus a cart plugin. GetPaid is free and brings PayPal, bank transfer and a few other gateways. WooCommerce alone does not support recurring payments, so recurring listings need the paid WooCommerce Subscriptions plugin.
Directorist's documentation, whose monetization pages show 2021 update dates, lists featured listings as free and a Pricing Plans extension for paid submission. Its free gateway is bank transfer, and its Stripe gateway is a paid extension. The free Business Directory Plugin adds an extra fee on each Stripe transaction, and its pricing table lists Stripe from the Pro license.
What WordPress adds: hosting, updates and your own data
Every pick here runs on WordPress hosting bought separately, and no plugin page lists a hosting price. The Business Directory Plugin page says you own your listings, member directory and data. Brilliant Directories is the hosted alternative: Essentials is $40 a month, billed monthly, on its account pricing page, and its FAQ lists managed hosting with SSL and automatic backups. Its trial page offers a 7-day free trial with no card.
